Embarking on a Raw Adventure: A Dog Owner’s Perspective

Embarking on the journey of preparing raw dog food at home was a huge leap for us. What pushed us into this was the untimely death of our dear sweet little girl, Madi. The veterinarian explained that her GI cancer was the result of eating the wrong foods, though they kept prescribing more of the same. After her death, we looked to our Rottie, Bodi, and swore to do better.

The pain of our loss was the catalyst we needed; the call to action. We poured through research online, comparing different brands of manufactured food, trying to determine what brand had the best ingredients and provided the right nutritional value. It didn’t take long to realize that the answer was not in a bag or a can. Just reading the ingredients listed on commercial dog food left us feeling guilty for how long we had been feeding our pups mystery meats, additives, and other unpronounceable items.

Our research led us to the exciting world of raw dog food, where we discovered how to give Bodi a balanced and biologically appropriate diet. The transition seemed daunting at first. We worried that we would get something wrong, but that fear made us learn more about how to make raw food safely, with nutritional and beneficial ingredients. We are by no means experts, and we still get some things wrong. However, since we made the transition, we have seemed remarkable changes in Bodi. He has more energy, his coat is shinier, and best of all, his poop looks healthy.
